Description

  Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus 128GB

Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus does not differ in looks so much from its predecessor the S10. Again it also has the design of Galaxy A51 mid-ranger and A71 top tier. But with all this what we do in fact mean to say is that it is a great-looking smartphone. But this, for some, not including its camera bulge which we shall talk about later. That one is meant for functional purposes rather than aesthetics. Moving on it is great to see Samsung built the Galaxy S20 Plus around a glass build – Corning Gorilla Glass 6 to be precise. This glass build allows for Qast Qi/PMA wireless charging 15W and also makes this phone have a premium appeal and feel. It also makes it quite slippery so you might want to get a case/phone cover with it.

The design and build of the Galaxy S20 Ultra also see it have IP68 certification for water and dust resistance. This means no worries even if it accidentally drops in water – they rarely do. It also brings with it a cleaner-looking single center-aligned punch-hole for the front-facing camera. The same has been placed underneath the display. Do you know what else is underneath the display of the Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus? It’s an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner which I must say excels at its job as long as you place the registered finger on the scan area. This phone weighs about 186 grams and is rather slim hence sleek at just 7.8 mm.

Samsung Galaxy S20 Display

The top three features of the display of Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus are these:

  • 6.7-inch AMOLED display, WQHD+ (3200 x 1440) resolution
  • 120Hz refresh rate, but only at FHD+ resolution or lower
  • In-screen fingerprint sensor

Some bias tech reviewers say this “In-screen fingerprint sensor is lackluster.” That is to mean, lacking in vitality, force, and conviction. But we say excels at its job as long as you rightly place the registered finger on the scan area. But away from that  Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus’ 6.7-inch AMOLED display is vibrant, sharp and so detailed, with WQHD+ resolution (3200 x 1440). This is our judgment is one of the best displays on any Samsung smartphone before it. And then with it is the highlight 120 Hz support which makes animations and games run and screen scrolling most fluid. This gives the feeling that the phone is more responsive to commands. Although with Galaxy S20 it is more than just a feeling. This actually is the case.

Side by side with this immaculate display is the sound quality – tuned by AKG. The stereo speakers of the Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus are powerful enough to ensure that you hear what you’re watching with uttermost clarity. Immerse yourself inside what you are watching and listening to with this phone’s unmatched audio quality. By the way, you might want to turn on facial recognition in the unlikely event that the in-display sensor stresses you out. Face recognition of Galaxy S20 is outstanding.

Outstanding Performance

I might as well copy and paste my review on the Hardware and Software performance of the base S20 right here. Why do you ask? Because the two are one and the same phone when it comes to platform and performance. They share every feature from internal storage to the Android version to RAM to chipset you name it. How you will use this information to make a purchase is entirely up to you. Here is the difference between Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus and Galaxy S20 in Kenya. The former has 6.7 inches display, a Quad camera setup, and a 4500 mAh battery. While, the latter has a 6.2 inches display, a Triple camera setup, and a 4000 mAh battery. And that is just about it.

No doubt the hardware of the S20 Plus is a top range with its Exynos 990 (7 nm+) chipset. Snapdragon 865 (7 nm+) chipset version is found in the USA market while the former is available Globally. Alongside this Exynos 990 chipset of Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus comes 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal memory made in UFS 3.1 infrastructure and a Mali G77 MP11 GPU. I will also want to mention one thing to make you aware. There is a more expensive 5G variant of S20. It is available but at this time it is the 4G model that is most available in Kenya.

We are not past the days of trying to locate the 3.5 mm audio jack on S smartphones. If not, well, you still won’t find it here. And still on matters of connectivity the Galaxy S20 Plus offers LTE up to 2000 Mbps, Wi-Fi ax (standard 6), Bluetooth 5.0, and an NFC chip. NFC on Samsung smartphones translates to Samsung Pay (Visa, MasterCard certified). By the way, this one runs Android 10 with Samsung’s One UI 2.1 interface.

Revolutionary Camera

First, let me talk about the interesting zoom which sees the switch take place at 2x and not at 3x. Thanks to it you get great quality at 3x due to a mix of 2x zoom and high sensor resolution. Then the wide-angle camera is also great and it works best with HDR. A splendid 10-megapixel front-facing camera you will also get within the display. It actually is underneath the display. That is below the glass. Samsung has also revolutionized smartphone photography and video recording with S20 models. Yes, you can shoot 8K videos up to 4320p@24fps with Samsung Galaxy S20. The selfie camera on the other hand is capable of shooting 4K videos at2160p@30/60fps.
